                                  HSTIORY OF MASCARA

            LASHES OF ANCIENT EGPT (3500 TO 2500)

Both men and women groomed their lashes. They would use kohl, malachite stones, to darken and style their lashes.


             LASHES AS AN SIGN OF CHASTITY FOR ROMANS (753 TO 476)

Roman women used kohl, burnt cork, rose petals, soot to care for their lashes which symbolized chastity

        CAMOUFLAGED LASHES OF MEDIEVAL TIMES (1066 TO 1485)

During this period, women downplayed their eyelashes to make their forehead more prominent.




          THE ROYAL ERA OF RED-DYED LASHES (1533 TO 1603)

Inspired by the QUEEN ELIZABETH'S reddish golden hair, women starting dyeing their eyelashes in the same color using crushed berries and soot.

         19 CENTURY COSMETIC EYELASHES (1837 TO 1901)

Chemist EUGENE RIMMEL developed a cosmetic product out of petroleum jelly.

WILLIAM siblings MAYBEL and THOMAS LYLE and a drug manufacturer launched Lash Brown Line a mascara made of petroleum jelly and oils.

Maybelline Cake Mascara dubbed as Ist modern eye cosmetic for everyday use.
